چکیده

The distinctive radiological picture of unilateral transradiancy without collapse (Figs. 1 and 2) has been increasingly recognized in the last decade, but no detailed pathological description has emerged and the cause and pathogenesis have been uncertain. In 1954 Macleod described nine cases of unilateral transradiancy and found that the affected lung was either small or normal in size and that there was no evidence of bronchial obstruction. He excluded from his series those with the additional radiological evidence of old primary tuberculous infection and he commented that the condition was of 'an undetermined pathology.' A case of transradiancy of the right

Unilateral increased transradiancy of the lung caused by bronchial carcinoid tumour.

Two patients with an intraluminal carcinoid tumour obstructing the right main bronchus in one, and the left main bronchus in the other, resulting in unilateral increased transradiancy from hypoperfusion of the lung, are described. Resection of the tumours and reconstruction of bronchial continuity was followed by return of perfusion to normal between three and 18 months after the operation. The...

Unilateral lung transradiancy: a physiological study.

This paper describes three patients who presented with the clinical and radiographic picture of increased transradiancy of one lung. Each case bore a close resemblance to those studied by Macleod (1954). A satisfactory explanation of the phenomenon has not yet been made. Microscopical examination of the abnormal lung has been limited to descriptions by Swyer and James (1953) and Dornhorst, Heaf...

Abnormal transradiancy of one lung.

This paper describes a disease pattern with a distinctive clinico-radiological picture but of an undetermined pathology. The main features are quietening of the breath sounds and lessening of the radiographic lung markings with persistently greater transradiancy over one lung, the condition being distinguishable from simple unilateral obstructive emphysema by the small or normal size of the aff...

Cardiopulmonary performance at rest and during exercise in seven patients with increased transradiancy of one lung ("Macleod's syndrome").

A group of seven patients with increased transradiancy of one lung included four with chronic bronchitis. The function of the two lungs combined was assessed by measurement of the lung volumes, airway resistance, and carbon monoxide uptake at rest, and by measurement of pulmonary ventilation, gas exchange, blood gases, and cardiac output at rest and during steady state exercise. The contributio...
